What are the entry requirements?

MARP is an adult service. Prospective clients must be willing to participate in a program of personal growth and be willing to detox for a minimum of 5 days prior to entry.

What about my medication?

As the MARP Residential Rehabilitation Program is a 'non medical model' all prescribed medications are held at the local chemist and dispensed weekly in medipacks. A doctor visits on a weekly basis and can arrange repeat prescriptions.

All medications including prescription, over-the-counter and vitamins etc are kept in the locked cabinet in the staff office.

MARP accepts and encourages the responsible use of prescribed medications. Exceptions are:
  • Benzodiazapam's, i.e. Valium, Xanax
  • Drug replacement pharmacotherapies, i.e. Methadone, Bupomorphine

Will I see a doctor?

MARP residential programs are non-medical. A doctor does attend on a weekly basis to see to residents' general medical needs. You will need to contact your own doctor to arrange for detox and medical help prior to entry.

What is the difference between Residential Rehabilitation and Supported Accommodation?

The Residential Rehabilitation Program is designed for clients who would have a great deal of difficulty staying clean and sober without intense support. The Residential Rehabilitation Program is staffed 24 hours a day and is highly structured with organised day leave etc.

Find out more about Residential Rehabilitation.

The Supported Accommodation Program suits clients who are highly motivated and can manage with a lesser level of support. There is no staff presence in the houses but day program and support during business hours is available at the MARP Centre. Many people would associate this program with a 'Halfway House' model.

Find out more about Supported Accommodation.

How long is the waiting list?

This can vary from day to day. We ask that you make regular contact to reconfirm your interest. Those who apply themselves to this process can move up the list quite quickly.

What is the cost?

MARP programs incur an entry and assessment fee of $50.00

Residential Rehabilitation is $150.00 per week for full board, lodgings and program.

Supported Accommodation clients pay $20.00 to MARP as a program fee and then 25% of their daily income to Community Housing Limited plus a utilities fee. Food is your own responsibility.

Are pets allowed?

No pets are allowed.

What are the sleeping arrangements?

MARP provides accommodation for four(4) men and four (4) women at a time. Accommodation is in individual rooms.

Supported Accommodation Clients are provided with their own bedrooms.

Can children be accommodated?

Unfortunately this is not possible in Residential Rehabilitation – Clients need to focus on their own issues for this period of time. MARP considers ongoing contact with children to be very important and encourages them to visit at the scheduled visiting times.

Supported Accommodation clients can have their children for overnight stays. In very rare instances a unit may become available for a family group.

Can I bring by own car?

No cars are allowed for Residential Rehabilitation clients. A van transports clients to and from groups.

Supported Accommodation Clients may bring their own vehicles.

Am I allowed visitors?

Special visiting times are set aside during the week at Residential Rehabilitation for visitors. You may have visitors after your first week of stay. The only condition is that your visitors must not have used any drugs or drunk alcohol on the day of visit.

There is no restriction on Supported Accommodation visitors other than they must visit out of program hours, be clean and sober, and cause no nuisance to housemates.

When can I keep appointments, do shopping, have free time?

Residential Rehabilitation clients have set times during the week when appointments may be kept, personal shopping done or to chill out. After the first 3 weekends in the program day leave can be taken on weekends.

Supported Accommodation clients organise their own times out of program hours.

Do I get day leave?

See above.

Am I allowed to bring my mobile phone?

Mobile phones may be brought to both programs but are not allowed for use during program time. Residential Rehabilitation clients surrender their mobile phones Monday-Friday. These are returned for weekends.

What will I need to bring with me?

Residential Rehabilitation Basically all you need to bring is your clothes and personal toiletries. Some residents choose to bring a radio and/or their own bed linen and towels but this is not mandatory.

Supported Accommodation clients will need clothes and bedding and a supply of food.

Where are the houses?

The Residential Rehabilitation house 'Croydonbridge' is located in Mooroolbark.

Supported Accommodation properties are located in Croydon and Mooroolbark.

The Administration Centre and where group programs take place is located in Lilydale.
